Snowstorm

This was the day we had to alter our route. We had breakfast in Riverton, Wyoming and it was snowing quite a bit when we went into the cafe. The cars coming from the North, the way we intended to go, had about 6 inches of snow packed on them. The waitress, and weatherman, said they might be closing the highway sometime that morning. So we decided to go South and cross the Rockies on the South Pass. A little out of our way. But a much better chance of making it. It was pretty hairy. Blinking signs recommended chains, which we didn't have. We talked to a truck driver who was stopped putting his on. He said we should be ok with the front wheel drive. There was about three inches of snow on most of the road in the higher elevations. A lot of ice underneath that. That doesn't sound like much. But keep in mind that we're talking about roads thru the Rockies at 7550 feet elevation. Lots of switchbacks and sharp turns. Didn't set any speed records that day.
